Hornsby Shire Council engaged AEC to assist in the development of their “Medium Density Housing Strategy”. The Housing Strategy informed Council’s priorities and decision making around the location and form of medium density housing and other the relevant planning controls throughout Hornsby Shire.

Noosa Shire Council were considering incorporation of bonus floorspace incentives in their Planning Scheme. In return, developers would dedicate newly completed dwellings for social housing purposes as part of multi-unit residential unit development.

AEC was engaged by Wentworth Point Investments, to assess the residential capacity for future housing in the Ballina Shire local government area.
- Bundaberg Hotel Demand Assessment
The local government area of Bundaberg is situated within the Wide Bay-Burnett region of Queensland. AEC research found that Bundaberg is currently benefiting from a number of tailwinds including strong visitation numbers, low levels of residential vacancy, a growing population base and significant current/ proposed infrastructure investment.
- Rezoning Strategy for Ku-ring-gai Council
Ku-ring-gai Council asked AEC to assess two former bowling green sites. Council was interested in exploring the potential options around re-zoning and required a detailed market advice assessment to guide decision making.
- Mackay Waterfront Investment Prospectus
AEC supported Mackay Regional Council in advancing the Mackay Waterfront Priority Development Area (172ha) through a high-impact investment prospectus. The document positioned the Waterfront as a catalyst for city-shaping growth, highlighting precinct investment opportunities, enabling infrastructure, and Council’s strategic support. Visually compelling and outcome-focused, the prospectus has been used to attract investors, engage private developers, and drive long-term economic activation of Mackay’s iconic waterfront.
- Whitsunday Regional Council Advocacy Strategy
To inform key political and bureaucratic decision markers about the region’s project and funding priorities, AEC developed an advocacy plan for Council. The plan was developed to ensure all relevant political stakeholder groups and third-party supporters clearly understood Council’s top project priorities and their benefits. The plan mapped priority projects, the outlook of the 2024 Queensland State Election and an implementation roadmap for advocacy activities. - North West Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils Strategic Plan & Infrastructure Masterplan
AEC supported the North West Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils (NWQROC) through two major initiatives. First, the Enabling Infrastructure Masterplan was developed to prioritise transport, bulk water, energy, telecommunications, housing, community, liveability, and tourism projects across 11 councils, underpinned by extensive engagement with Mayors and CEOs. Second, AEC partnered with stakeholders to deliver the NWQROC Strategic Plan, setting future priorities and ensuring a united regional voice on the key issues shaping Queensland’s North West.
- MITEZ Regional Net Zero Strategy
The MITEZ region is uniquely positioned to drive Australia’s transition to a Net Zero economy, leveraging its natural endowments in critical minerals, solar, wind, and enabling infrastructure. To support this, AEC developed the MITEZ Regional Net Zero Strategy, outlining the region’s opportunities in renewable energy, critical minerals, and sustainable practices to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050. The strategy highlights the risks of inaction while identifying opportunities such as green manufacturing and resilient supply chains. Progress is already underway, paving the way for MITEZ to realise its Net Zero potential.
- Shire of Ashburton Economic Development Strategy
AEC partnered with the Shire of Ashburton to develop an economic development strategy focused on diversifying beyond mining, building vibrant communities, driving investment, and positioning the region as a place to live, visit, and invest. Five key enablers were identified: new community infrastructure, private investment in priority sectors, supportive government and private policies, and continuation of existing strengths. A dynamic five-year action plan was created to guide Council in achieving its long-term vision for economic prosperity.
- Flinders Shire Event Precinct Vision
The Flinders Shire is home to a number of public/community activities and events throughout the year that attract visitors to the region. Continued development of the region’s liveability is vital to support population retention and ongoing economic prosperity. To support future growth of events and sporting activities in Hughenden, Council engaged AEC Group Pty Ltd (AEC) to develop a plan for the future of the Hughenden Event Precinct. AEC prepared a graphically designed document to support lobbying efforts for Flinders Shire Council. Northern and Western Queensland.
- Livestock Exchange Commercial Review – East Gippsland Shire Council
Council engaged AEC to complete a commercial review of the East Gippsland Livestock Exchange, which included a situational analysis, market review of the agriculture industry and a review of the competition from other saleyards. AEC developed options for Council to consider for the future operations and management of the facility, including the consideration of a beneficial enterprise (solely owned subsidiary company of the Council).
