The agribusiness and defence sectors have been identified by the NSW state government as key development opportunities for the state. Due to the existing presence of these sectors within the local economy, the newly formed Future Food Systems Cooperative Research Centre, and the planned delivery of the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, Liverpool City Council has a keen interest in identifying and quantifying each industry within the local area.
AEC applied our bespoke sector definition methodology to define the agribusiness sector in Liverpool, identifying specific roles within each industry (at a detailed level) to facilitate the identification of agribusiness workers beyond the traditional agricultural sector. For this project, the defence sector was defined through the use of the standard Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classifications (ANZSIC) definition.
The profiles provided Council with a detailed understanding of the existing local industries in terms of employment by place of work, economic activity (Gross Value Add) and the extent of established local supply chains. Projections of employment and gross value add were also provided.
