The AECgroup recently attended and exhibited at the twenty second annual conference of the Queensland Local Government Accountants Association Inc. The Conference was held on the 21 to 23 November at Rydges Capricorn International Resort at Yeppoon. This is the fourth time that the AECgroup has exhibited at this conference.

Simon Smith and Gavin O'Donovan drew the short straws to attend the conference, where in addition to the AECgroup we were also representing the LGAQ Business Management Assistance Program and our developing Financial Management Tool (being developed in association with Burnett Shire Council).

As always with a bunch of accountants, the 'social' networking was an arduous task (ask Gavin about karaoke!). This was made all the harder by the range of activities provided by the Resort including two championship 18 hole golf courses (try getting in three rounds of golf in three days, including a speedy 9 holes in 45 minutes!).

The conference was a success for the company leading to substantial follow-up work. Another success was our putting competition with AECgroup headgear being given away. Although a note of caution to the wary: when dealing with accountants make sure that those dealings are auditable!!!

We hope to see all our local government accounting friends throughout the year and at next year's conference.
