A Future Direction for the Darling Downs & South West

Queensland Region The Darling Downs & South West Queensland Summit gathered government, industry and community leaders when it was held on the 21-22 August at the Dalby RSL.

The aim of the Summit was to look at what is possible for the region's future and for delegates to determine and agree on strategies to aid in the development of the region.

AECgroup Chief Executive Officer, Simon Smith said "The Summit examined what issues and challenges the region is facing and explored solutions for the future of the region."

"Leaders within business and the community need to work together with government to ensure the region continues to prosper."

Speakers such as DR Peter Brain, National Institute of Economic and Industry Research executive director said many towns were dying as infrastructure deteriorated, jobs growth slowed and incomes continued to fall.

The Summit also featured keynote speaker and international futurist Sohail Inayatullah who conducted a planning-visioning workshop to determine what is the possible future for the Darling Downs & South West community.

The two-day conference allowed the delegates to recommend actions to effect positive change and motioned for a steering committee to take on these challenges and to ensure they are followed through. The newly appointed Chairman of the Steering Committee is now Ken Murphy, South West Queensland Regional Chairman, Commerce Queensland.

A copy of speaker's presentations and the recommendations put forward to the new committee is now available on CD Rom for a fee of $299. For further information on this event or future progress please contact the AECgroup on
