Project Title: Socio-Economic Impact of Drought on Mildura Region

Description: This study examined the social and economic implications being felt resulting from the prolonged drought and subsequent low water allocations in the Mildura region.  The analysis identified and examined the economic and social drivers of the region and local townships and following a rigorous consultation and analysis process reported the current and likely future socio-economic implications for the region.  Disconnected communities, isolation and a loss of social cohesion were all identified as following the direct economic impacts.  Five drought recovery strategies were developed to assist the region address these issues, focusing on improving farm viability, increasing economic diversity, increasing community access to services, maintaining educational participation for children and maintaining community interaction.
